What I Thought About Steven Speilberg’s The BFG

I went in to this movie, just having seen the trailers and synopsis online. I’ve never read the book. My 10-year old son is the one who told me he read The BFG in school, so he definitely wanted to see the movie.

The visuals in this movie are worth the price of admission. The colors are vivid and the parts that are CGI are definitely gone over with a fine toothed comb. The dreams are shown as comet-like flashes or flames and are very bright. The best part of the movie, at least to me and my kids, was when the tree of dreams is shown.

The story, it could have been a little better. It’s pretty typical for the sort of movie that was put out, save for the Queen and her armies. What makes this movie work though, is Ruby Barnhill and Mark Rylance. The relationship that they have in this movie, makes the movie fun and seem like time isn’t really passing, even though the movie is about 2 hours.

I’m definitely ready to try some of that green fermentation with the bubbles going the wrong way!
