Now, I am going to touch on Logan and give you my 2 cents on the movie, but I have to touch on this damn yellow Wolverine suit that briefly made an appearance in a deleted scene from 2013’s The Wolverine, which you can see below:
Below is a still from the deleted scene:
The reason I mention the yellow suit, is because I’m older than pretty much everyone that writes on this website, at 37 years old. So to me, I grew up watching the X-Men cartoons after school and of course on Saturday mornings. So even if you want to classify me as a dinosaur and get onto me about nostalgia, I’ll give you that. But along with myself, the rest of us “older” folks want to see Hugh Jackman don the yellow suit at least once, even in a flashback sequence or something! Hugh Jackman is the Wolverine/Logan. He has become the character throughout the 17 years that he’s played the character.
Now as far as what Logan is, the movie is absolutely awesome! I don’t want to spoil what happens, but if you’ve read any of the OLD MAN LOGAN comics, you know what happens. Despite his attempts to give Wolverine/Logan the proper “swan song,” it just doesn’t feel like we got the best out of Jackman. Is it his fault? No. In February, it was stated by Logan when asked by ScreenRant if he would continue on as Wolverine and the possibility of Wolverine in an Avengers movie:
“If that was on the table when I made my decision, it certainly would have made me pause. That’s for sure. Because I always love the idea of him within that dynamic, with the Hulk obviously, with Iron Man but there’s a lot of smarter people with MBAs who can’t figure that out [laughter]. You never know. At the moment, honestly, if I really did have them there, I probably wouldn’t have said this is the last. It just feels like this is the right time [to leave the character].”
What I will say is this, as far as director’s are concerned, James Mangold should be the person leading the X-Men franchise as far as the cinematic universe is concerned. That is my opinion. He did well with what he had. Imagine if Logan weren’t Rated-R and had a bigger budget, it could have been THAT MUCH BETTER! Sir Patrick Stewart, along with Hugh Jackman are retiring from being X-Men. Stewart WAS Professor X. He embraced the role and pretty much lived it.
I’m going back to see Logan again, with my kids this time, the younger ones anyway (11 and 13-years old!).
