Google Play Protect arrives to battle against rogue apps on Android

Android is the most widely used mobile operating system in the world and also the most targeted by cybercriminals. It’s not uncommon to see news about apps being distributed within the Google Play app store, which somehow dodged the security of Google’s official app store.

Google launches “Google Play Protect” to ensure the safety of Android apps

Google has just released an exclusive security feature that scans applications installed on the user’s device to ensure that applications are free of any malware or viruses.

Google Play Protect acts sort of an official antivirus from the Google Play store, running uninterrupted all day automatically. After rummaging through the store and smartphone, if a problem is found the user will be notified.

This new tool is built into Google Play Services 11 and will also be made available in previous versions of Play Services as well. It’s now available for users, gradually expanding and will soon be available to all users.

If rogue apps can occasionally dodge Play Store security in order to get onto your device, I don’t think the solution is going to be robbing my device of crucial resources and battery.

Google Play Protect doesn’t run on the device. Just like google play instant apps its all run google server side. Also looking at security there is only so much you can do proactively. Most of security is reactive and how fast you can patch it. it will not drain battery or resources. if it does it will be extremely minimal.

would you not prefer an extra level of protection ? even if this service stops even one malicious app from your device its done a great service
