REVIEW: The House Blu-Ray

Here’s my review of Warner Bros. Home Entertainment’s THE HOUSE, which hits 4K Ultra HD/Blu-Ray/DVD on Tuesday, currently available on Digital HD!

The House is definitely a Will Ferrell movie through and through. There’s a lot of laughs, some violence and the movie even has heart!

The Johansen’s (Will Ferrell & Amy Poehler) find out that their daughter’s scholarship will not be available anymore, due to a water park that has taken priority over pretty much everything in the city. Everything that the parents are going through, feels like my life on the screen! I have an 18-year old that graduated in May. The financial struggles and everything it takes to get kids into school is a job in and of itself! Alex Johansen (Ryan Simpkins) was awarded a scholarship that would have paid for her tuition in it’s entirety, but due to a water park being built by the city, the scholarship would no longer be available. The Johansen’s throw their daughter a graduation party in their back yard, when Frank (Jason Mantzoukas) reminds them that he definitely needs the upcoming Vegas trip, to take his mind off of things that are going on in his life.

After the parents find out the news from the city, during a town hall meeting, they were going to cancel their plans on the vacation they had planned with Frank, who was left by his wife. The Johansen’s didn’t want to add to the problems their friend Frank was facing, so they decided to not cancel, but go ahead with their trip to try and ease Frank’s mind. The Johansen’s do everything they can in their power to come up with the money for Alex’s tuition,

In Vegas, Frank starts off on a hot streak. Frank convinces the Johansen’s to place a bet. While asking for chips, the dealer accidentally places the entire $500 on the table, but Frank’s hot streak continues. The collective was one roll away from paying for Alex’s entire college tuition when Scott (Ferrell) says something that changes Frank’s hot streak and they lose EVERYTHING.

There’s some inappropriate relations going on at city hall. There’s a necklace that’s worth quite a bit of money. The water park isn’t the only thing taking monetary resources from the city, so is the gentleman above.

When the group gets back home, Frank had started putting together a plan to make the money to cover Alex’s tuition and full disclosure, to pay his debts, including his foreclosed house. The house going into foreclosure is one of the reasons Frank’s wife left him. Frank sits the Johanesen’s down and shows them a video presentation showing them the plan about putting a casino in his house and the three of them making money.

Some of the “shows” that take place at the casino is a comedian and also a fight club. Garvey (Kyle Kinane) and Reggie (Cedric Yarbrough) start fighting over someone cheating. The entire casino starts placing bets on the fight. Laura (Andrea Savage) calls out Martha (Lennon Parham) who previously had issues due to Laura not bringing anything to a party that Martha had thrown.

I’ll stop here to leave some for the imagination. Overall, the movie is definitely watchable, especially if you like Will Ferrell movies!
