REVIEW: 24: Legacy Season One

Thank you to 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment for the opportunity to review 24: Legacy Season One!

This series is INTENSE! I also like the way it shows how basically secrets are kept from the person right next to you, dependent on their level of clearance.

The series starts off with members of a team of special forces members getting killed over a strongbox that was taken from a raid in Yemen where the leader was killed. Two members are left on the hit-list of the people doing the killing, Grimes is a wanderer who has sort of lost his mind, even before the raid in Yemen and the other Eric Carter. Carter’s wife has an interesting connection to her husband’s brother, they were previously together before she left their situation for her husband. Carter was the leader of the team, who reported directly to the director of CTU at the time, Rebecca Ingram. Ingram is important because she is married to a Senator, who has aspirations of running for President, John Donovan.

Carter informs Ingram that he was attacked in his home along with his wife and that the rest of the team has been killed except Grimes. Carter finds Grimes and tells him what’s going on. He asks about the strongbox and Grimes starts to lose his mind again. But he does reveal that he may have the strongbox in his possession, but tries to negotiate a ransom in exchange for the strongbox.  Carter has to go through quite a big task, taking $2 million dollars worth of money that was confiscated from a drug bust at the local police station. When Grimes agrees to meet with Carter, the exchange goes south because of the family of the people that were raided came back to try and take what they believe to be theirs, the contents of the strongbox, which happens to be a USB drive with sleeper cells of radicalized militants within the United States. The USB drive ends up in the hands of the militants from Yemen, but Grimes steals a phone. During the battle, the USB drive is damaged.

At a high school, a love affair between a student and teacher, the former, who left her boyfriend and accidentally let him see certain messages with threats to the school and city, are going on. The student’s boyfriend goes to the teacher and tells him about what he saw. They come up with a plan to lie to the young man, but he comes to the class once again and the teacher panics and bangs his head against the floor, critically injuring the young man.

Grimes comes to Carter with an idea how to try and find the location of the militants. He proposes using a leader of a smuggling ring that he has previously done business with. The problem with this scenario, is that Grimes had taken a loan out from the lead smuggler and knows that he will have to pay the ultimate price with his life, in order for the smuggler to do business with Carter.

During the time that Carter is doing what he can with Grimes about the USB drive situation, his wife has been staying with his brother, who also happens to be her ex. His current girlfriend doesn’t like the fact that she is staying with them. Even going so far as to try to set up a hit on her boyfriend. Everything goes south here, when Carter’s wife finds out about the plot to kill Isaac (Carter’s brother). After she has to raise a gun at Isaac’s then girlfriend and one member of his crew, she gets arrested by two police officers, who were in the area, investigating shots being fired. After Isaac shows back up, he and Nicole are kidnapped by the militants.

Carter reaches out to Andy, a CTU tech, for help with fixing the USB drive as the militants want, but secretly to destroy the drive, so no sleeper cells will be activated.

You’re going to have to get the DVD or Digital HD to finish it, because I don’t want to ruin the show for you! Just get ready for a lot of action, shooting and use of technology to solve problems!

I give this an B+

The 12 episode series chronicles an adrenaline-fueled race against time to stop a devastating terrorist attack on United States soil – in the same real-time format that has propelled this genre-defining series.

Six months ago in Yemen, an elite squad of U.S. Army Rangers, led by Sergeant Eric Carter (Corey Hawkins), killed terrorist leader Sheik Ibrahim Bin-Khalid. In the aftermath, Bin-Khalid’s followers declared a threat against Carter, his squad and their families, forcing them into federal witness protection. But a recent attempt on Carter’s own life makes it clear to him that his team has been exposed.

To thwart further attacks, Carter enlists Rebecca Ingram (Miranda Otto), who directed the raid that killed Bin-Khalid; a brilliant and ambitious intelligence officer who has stepped down from her post as National Director of the Counter Terrorist Unit (CTU) to support her husband, Senator John Donovan (Emmy® and Golden Globe® Award winner Jimmy Smits), in his campaign for President of the United States.

The series also stars Teddy Sears (The Flash, Masters of Sex) as Keith Mullins, head of CTU; Emmy Award winner Dan Bucatinsky (Scandal, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life) as Andy Shalowitz, communications analyst at CTU; Anna Diop (Quantico, Greenleaf) as Nicole Carter, the wife of Eric Carter and nurse; Ashley Thomas (The Night Of, Black Mirror) as Eric’s older brother Isaac Carter; Charlie Hofheimer (Off Season, Mad Men) as Ben Grimes who suffers from PTSD after being in the army and Eric’s old comrade in arms; Coral Peña (Blue Bloods) as computer analyst Mariana Stiles; Emmy® Award winner Gerald McRaney (This Is UsHouse of Cards, Deadwood) as Henry Donovan, a powerful man in the oil industry who is dedicated to helping his son John Donovan win the presidential election; Raphael Acloque (Burnt, The Danish Girl) as Jadalla Bin-Khalid who has continued his father’s jihadist campaign; and Sheila Vand (Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, Argo) as Nilaa Mizrani, campaign manager to presidential hopeful, John Donovan. Carlos Bernard (Hawaii Five-0, Castle) also guest stars in a recurring role, reprising his original series character, Tony Almeida.
