Thank you to Universal Pictures Home Entertainment for the opportunity to review the Blu-Ray Combo Pack of their Pitch Perfect 3!
I have to start off by saying that I like movies like Pitch Perfect 3 and the series as a whole, because I know it’s something that my 14-year old daughter will enjoy and my 12-year old son can also sit through, because he likes music and singing. I have experience in the record business (from the recording studio to the record label), in the radio industry and just generally love music.
Pitch Perfect 3 kicks off somewhere in the south of France, with the Bellas performing Britney Spears’s “Toxic” and then Beca (Anna Kendrick) and Fat Amy/Patricia (Rebel Wilson) jumping off of an exploding yacht.
Flashback to three weeks earlier where John and Gail (John Michael Higgins and Elizabeth Banks) are following Beca around in her everyday life, putting together an aca’mentary on the Barden Bellas and what their lives outside of being in the group entail. Beca walks into a meeting with Pimp-Lo (Moises Arias) and his entourage. She plays a version of a song that she produced. Pimp-Lo isn’t feeling it. Beca gets into with her boss over the sound of the song and decides that she isn’t with the direction the artist and/or label is trying to go and quits. She heads home, talking with Fat Amy about things when Chloe walks in where the story about her quitting or “getting fired” gets retold. Beca asks Chloe why she is wearing her Barden Bellas uniform and reminds everyone that tonight would be the Bellas Reunion at the fish aquarium. The Bellas head to the reunion with full intentions on performing. Emily (Hailee Steinfeld) and the new Bellas break it to the original Bellas that they were just invited to watch, as Emily puts it, “she thought they were busy with their jobs and lives.” That moment was sort of life-changing for the ladies, making them realize they are a little older and not in college anymore.
Aubrey (Anna Camp) tries to brighten the mood for the ladies with the possibility of performing at least a few more times with a USO tour that her dad could help set up. It turns out that there will also be a competition between the Bellas and three groups (Saddle Up) EverMoist, DJ Young Sparrow and DJ Dragon Nutz) for the opportunity to open up for a DJ Khaled special USO performance.
I’ll leave the ending for you to watch. But between the beginning and end, Fat Amy/Patricia reunites with her father, Aubrey wants for her father’s attention and to me, the thing that I’ve seen (having worked in the music industry and radio) that the Barden Bellas were always featuring a star in Beca. The only issue I have with this movie, I don’t get the idea of making Fat Amy/Patrica a tongue-in-cheek action star.
The BONUS FEATURES are definitely worth the purchase of the 4K Ultra HD/Blu-Ray Combo Pack/Digital HD. We watched every single one! I like seeing the behind-the-scenes stuff, how the production works with the singing/performing/choreography. My daughter liked seeing how one of the costume designers came up with the individuality of the ladies in the group for the final performance. Another bonus feature that stood out was the inclusion of FREEDOM! ’90 x CUPS, because let’s face it, anything including some iteration of CUPS is a winner.
My daughter’s thoughts: They have to make a part 4 right? That way we can see where [REDACTED] career heads after getting chosen by DJ Khaled.

- Don’t Mess with Rebel – Rebel Wilson trained with stunts coordinator, Jennifer Badger, to prefect her many stunts that we see throughout the film. In this featurette, we’ll catch a glimpse of Rebel’s training and discuss the most bad-ass stunt of all – Rebel taking down four grown men in order to save the Bellas.
- The Headliner: DJ Khaled – We check in with cast and filmmakers to hear their reactions on the music producer/personality being brought on, how he fits into the story and the love he has for the Bellas.
- The Final Note: John and Gail – Everyone’s favorite Talk-a-pella podcasters are back, combining their resources to produce an exclusive d’aca’mentary following the beloved classic Bellas. We discuss their far-fetched endeavor with the cast and filmmakers to better understand our favorite aca-duo.
- Just Because He’s a Bad Guy – The cast and filmmakers were overjoyed to learn that legendary actor, John Lithgow was joining the Pitch Perfect family, and he did not disappoint!
