Award-winning writer and director Jennifer Fox delivers a film based on her own childhood in The Tale, available for Digital Download on July 2nd. Premiering to rave reviews at Sundance 2018, the HBO film, starring Laura Dern (HBO’s Big Little Lies), is “an immense, brave and genuinely earth-shaking self-portrait” (Indiewire).

Based on Fox’s own haunting and shocking story, The Tale follows Jennifer (Laura Dern) as she faces life-altering questions after a short story she wrote for school at age 13 forces her to re-examine her first sexual relationship. Puncturing the insidious workings of unchecked power, she lays bare the mechanisms of memory – refashioned over time by a growing girl in order to not only survive, but to prevail.

“A landmark advance in the field of cinematic memoir,” (Variety) The Tale also stars Isabelle Nélisse, Elizabeth Debicki, Jason Ritter, Frances Conroy, John Heard, with Common and Ellen Burstyn.
