First and foremost, thank you to Warner Bros. Home Entertainment for allowing me to review EVERY DAY Blu-Ray Combo Pack!

Every Day is based off of the David Levithan New York Times bestseller. I watched the movie with the usual suspects, my 12-year old son and 14-year old daughter. Angourie Rice, who plays Rhiannon, who is charismatic and fits the role perfectly. Rhiannon falls in love with a “spirit” that wakes up in a new body each and every day, leaving no memory in it’s human host. Rhiannon falls in love with the spirit and learns to love it, no matter the human body it wakes up in. It’s sort of an updated take on Cinderella, where at a certain time, the spirit moves on to it’s next human “host.”

The spirit’s name is simply “A” and is first learned of when it takes over the body of Rhiannon’s boyfriend Justin. Rhiannon and Justin do something that isn’t typical, the leave school and spend a day in Baltimore. On the way there, he sings along with her to The’s “This Is The Day,” which we’ll come back to in a moment. Rhannon also told Justin (well, A) about how things with her father have been going and what actually happened with his job, which she hasn’t shared with anyone. The next morning, Justin’s mind is foggy on what exactly happened, as if he were drunk and had a hangover. He missed practice, which is something he wouldn’t have done, normally. Justin’s also back to being about himself, chain-smoking cigarettes (and maybe other things) and hanging with his friends, more-so than Rhiannon.

A then takes over the body of Amy (Jenni Ross) who apparently told to shadow a student and asks Rhiannon if it’s ok if she is the one to be shadowed. While in her science class, Justin walks in and asked what happened the day before, sort of taking the breath out of Rhiannon’s sail so to speak, because it meant the world to her. Amy (A) gets offended by how the way Justin treats Rhiannon and speaks out of place, telling Rhiannon that she definitely deserves better. Later on that day, the couple head to a friend’s party, where Justin would rather hang with his boys than pay attention to his girlfriend. To try and get Justin’s attention, Rhiannon takes over the AUX cord (back to The’s “This Is The Day” HERE) and plays the song that she and Justin sang together on their day getaway, “This Is The Day” mysterious. She glances to see if Justin notices, of course he doesn’t. While sitting there on her own, a dancing geek named Nathan (who we didn’t know at the moment in happened, unless you pay attention to small details like myself!) but A had taken over his body, singing and dancing the parts that he had the day before while in Justin’s body. Justin notices at the end of the song that someone else had stepped on his “turf.” Nathan quickly states he is a cousin of the person throwing the party, and also includes that he is “the gay cousin” so not to alarm Justin anymore than he already had. After Justin goes back to worrying about his friends, Nathan asks Rhiannon to go with him somewhere private. While in the small, playhouse, Nathan (A) moves her hair a particular way, that if you see this movie, you recognize gets done a few different times.

The rest of the movie is Rhiannon trying to find out more information on who or what A really is. The journey is what makes the story/movie work. While A is in other people’s bodies, he tries not to mess with their lives or make choices they wouldn’t make. The problem that Rhiannon and A run into, is that no matter what, he can’t stay in the body that he’s in forever and in the same way, the body that he does occupy, he’s blocking their mind out of.

All in all, I liked this movie and upset with myself that I didn’t catch this in theaters! My 12-year old son and 14-year old daughter loved the movie as well. So much so, my daughter has asked me for the book!

The SPECIAL FEATURES are pretty well thought out and help tell the story of how the movie was adapted from the book, with the cast, director and author talking about the conversion to the big and small screen.
