Here are my thoughts on Universal Pictures Skyscraper movie, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

Thanks to Universal Pictures and Alamo Drafthouse (Victory Rewards Member FTW!), I had the opportunity, along with my rugrats, to check out Skyscraper on Monday night, a few days before it hit theaters officially. It’s something I’ve been looking forward to seeing, given my circumstances and how it would portrayed on the big screen. I can definitely say that Johnson shows a lot of what I go through on a day to day basis, as far as the dealing with what’s my mind about having to wear a prosthetic. The one thing that he shows on screen that I haven’t yet mastered is running. I felt every single time he fell or landed funny due to jumping. I can say, it felt good being represented on a movie screen.

Skyscraper also marks the first time in a while that Neve Campbell has a leading role in a movie, having taken roles in mini-series and TV series, including Grey’s Anatomy, Mad Men, Welcome To Sweden and House Of Cards since her last movie.

The visuals in this movie will blow your mind! There’s a scene in The Pearl where the floor looks to be clear and is quite a ways up in the air, that made my heart stop, because I don’t do heights! It borrows from movies such as Die Hard, Towering Inferno and a few others, but stands on it’s own two legs, even if one is a prosthetic! This year, with Die Hard, we are celebrating it as a classic 30 years later. That’s not such bad company to reference. The parts where Johnson jumps from the super-crane to The Pearl building make you feel like you’re up there beside him and looking down at the ground. The action is also quite good, including the fight scenes and Campbell holds her own a few times.

All in all, I love the message that the movie sends, Johnson’s character Will Sawyer is all about his family and he will do whatever he can AND THEN SOME to make sure they’re good. My kids loved so much that we’ve seen it once more since Monday!  You can check out all sorts of video below, including: trailers, clips, featurettes and even premiere footage from New York that took place earlier this week!

SKYSCRAPER’s RATING: A

You may or may not know, that I am myself an amputee, just on the opposite leg of what Johnson’s character Will Sawyer, is nn the movie. The pictures below are of my legs and of my prosthetic.
