NBC has released three new CLIPS, STILLS and a SYNOPSIS for next week’s New Amsterdam: Boundaries episode!
New Amsterdam: Every Last Second recap:
I do have to say, I had my issues with Ryan Eggold, not because of his talent, but because of his character on THE BLACKLIST, Tom Keen. The show used to be one of my favorite shows on TV. So for him to be cast as the lead on New Amsterdam, he was going to have to blow me away and to say the least, he’s done that! He is endearing. His wife is pregnant, they have their issues, Max has his own issues and on top of it all, “the Dam” is one of the most technologically advanced hospitals and he is trying to change a lot of the way the hospital is run.
In EVERY LAST SECOND, the Dean Of Medicine calls Max into his office and fires him. Seeing that Max doesn’t put up a fight, he offers a different resolution, he gives Max a six month opportunity to change his mind on why he shouldn’t be fired. Max tells him he only needs 3 months. He goes to see his wife, who is a patient at the hospital, to find out that she is being released and wants to head to Connecticut to stay with family. Max is told he’s late to a required staff meeting to find out a donor has come to the forefront to give either “the Dam” or two other hospitals a donation of $10 million dollars in her husbands name. She wants to follow Max around and see what her donation would be doing for the people that visit the hospital. Along the way, there is a naked man who is brought in named Ray, who was digging up a grave and saying “I’ve lost her, my fiance.” He also believes he’s dead and invisible. The crew finds out that he’s been injecting himself with embalming fluid. They later find a tumor through an MRI scan. His fiance was also found and notified because the gentleman had dropped his wallet at the cemetery.
Another patient, who is very pregnant and also an inmate at a women’s jail, is brought in. She needs to deliver the baby as soon as possible, if not, both of them could die. The mother-to-be is reluctant, because she was born while her mother was incarcerated and had to grow up going through the foster care system. While leading the donor around, Max stops to show her two newborns. She talks about how she never had children, but did indeed want them. Instead of being in incubators, the newborns are picked up and carried and fed by nurses in what Max calls Kangaroo care.
Max convinces the donor to donate the $10 million to the women’s facility to create a Kangaroo care room that allows mothers to spend time with their newborns until they are released from incarceration. Max saw it as a win-win for both New Amsterdam, the newborn, mother and the donor, all while possibly making the Dean Of Medicine budge from some of his thoughts, which some might consider antiquated.
