Electronic Arts (EA) and DICE have revealed new details about the upcoming Battlefield 5!
I have always been a fan of Battlefield games. I enjoy the teamwork / squad mechanics during massive online multiplayer matches and love the huge variety of weapons, locations and vehicles / aircraft that these games let players use.
Here is the official synopsis and NEW reveal trailer for Battlefield 5:
“Enter mankind’s greatest conflict with Battlefield V as the series goes back to its roots with a never-before-seen portrayal of World War 2. Assemble your Company of customized soldiers, weapons, and vehicles – then take them on an epic journey through the Tides of War. Experience the most intense, immersive Battlefield yet. You will never be the same.”
THE SETTING – WW2:
DICE have decided to return to a WW2 setting. This is great as it is an era full of iconic battles and there is massive storytelling potential here. DICE have developed unique characters, locations and weapons using their amazing game / graphics engine. Battlefield games always look great and this will be no exception. Here is what DICE had to say about this iconic period in time:
“With Battlefield V, DICE returns to the era that started it all: World War 2. But it’s a WW2 experience unlike any other. Characters, locations, and weapons of war are all brought to life through vibrant, modern visuals and cutting-edge storytelling. Taking inspiration from the lost pages of history, you’ll find yourself immersed in iconic WW2 action – from paratrooper assaults to tank warfare – in battles that were pivotal, though sometimes forgotten, in the early days of the war. This is not the World War 2 you’ve come to expect. This is Battlefield V.”
EA also announced the return of the acclaimed single player campaign mode; War Stories. Here is the synopsis:
“The acclaimed single-player campaign mode from Battlefield 1, War Stories, returns for Battlefield V. Witness the conflict through the eyes of men and women of World War 2 and experience untold stories of human drama, filled with Battlefield moments. Experience the freezing Norwegian landscapes as a young Norwegian resistance fighter or come ashore into the desert heat of North Africa – and more”
GAMEPLAY:
Battlefield games require a lot of tactical thinking and teamwork. This is what makes them a different experience, especially in online multiplayer. Teamwork is key to getting the victory. Here is what DICE had to say about the various gameplay improvements:
“Utilize the battlefield in a multitude of unexpected ways to lead your squad to victory. Build fortifications, repair war-torn structures, or tow stationary weapons to maximize their devastating firepower. Enhanced immersion allows you to see and feel the force of an explosion, drag a downed ally to safety, or shoot an incoming grenade out of the sky. Squad play is deeper and more rewarding than ever. Deploy as a team, rely on your individual strengths, and call in game-changing Reinforcements when the situation is desperate.”
“In new and classic multiplayer modes, players can lead their own unique Company to victory in a dynamic multiplayer experience where every battle is unique. The Company allows players to create and deeply customize their soldiers, weapons and vehicles that will evolve as they progress, covering everything from the way they look to the way they play. Fan favorite modes like the 64-player Conquest return, with the game’s multiplayer culminating in Grand Operations, an all-new live, event-based experience within Tides of War. These multimap, multi-mode dynamic events take players through vast historical battles to relive moments of bravery and desperation while fighting to the final objective”

This looks like a lot of fun. It’s great that players will be able to customise their characters with so many different options. It should make for unique gameplay experiences for each player, depending on the type of characters they have chosen to play as!
TIDES OF WAR
“Tides of War is the grand journey of you and your Company of soldiers through the unsung, unexpected battlefields of World War 2. Beginning with the Fall of Europe, then taking you further into mankind’s greatest conflict, the Tides of War make Battlefield V a continuing voyage, with new battles, fronts, and rewards on the horizon – for all Battlefield V owners.”
During the livestream, EA / DICE announced that the premium pass will not be returning for Battlefield 5. This is great news as it means the player community for the game will all have the same content and maps available to them!
Replacing the premium pass will be a live service called ‘Tides of War.’ Tides of War lets players use their own customised company (soldiers, vehicles etc) through various live challenges. These challenges will take place in multiple locations.
Battlefield 5 is set to be released on October 19, 2018 on Xbox One, PS4 and PC!
EA will be releasing even more information about this game very soon, including more details about ‘Grand Operations’ Mode in June during their press conference!
