Supermassive Games and Bandai Namco Entertainment have announced the release date of the upcoming horror game Man of Medan!
Supermassive Games are the creators of Until Dawn. This was an awesome PS4 cinematic horror game. Until Dawn had a branching storyline with unique characters. Players were forced to make crucial decisions at all times and each decision could affect the outcome of the game. Man of Medan is the first game in the Dark Pictures Anthology, bringing supernatural horror to the South Pacific. As the player you’ll get to shape the story through your actions and decisions. Who will live, who will die – It’s all down to you…
Man of Medan is the first entry in the Dark Pictures Anthology. I mentioned this game in an older post which can be seen here. This anthology of upcoming horror games by Supermassive will each have their own homage to a classic genre of horror. Man of Medan seems to be focused on a Ghost Ship style story. Each game in the Dark Pictures Anthology will have a brand new story, setting and characters. Man of Medan is about a group of friends who set sail on a diving trip in the South Pacific. Their fun trip turns sinister very quickly.
Until Dawn let players make various decisions throughout the game and forced players to deal with the consequences. In Until Dawn, characters could actually die permanently (and the story continued, acknowledging and adapting to the death of a character). I really enjoyed this style of gameplay as it also added a lot of replay value and greatly increased the importance of any decisions made by the player. Here is what the Supermassive Games CEO Pete Samuels said about this in a interview with Sony:
“There are scenes that only exist on specific narrative paths; different combinations of survivors possible before the final scenes; more significant and in some ways more surprising consequences of ‘mismanaging’ relationships; and endings that vary significantly depending on the paths you take” -Pete Samuels, CEO Supermassive Games

Man of Medan has a great cast of actors who will be bringing these characters to life. The cast includes Shawn Ashmore (X-Men, The Following) playing Conrad and Ayisha Issa (Shadowhunters, Warm Bodies, Immortals) voicing Fliss.
Future Games in the Dark Pictures Anthology:
Man of Medan is only the first installment in ‘The Dark Pictures Anthology.’ More games will be releasing in the future. Here is what Supermassive had to say:
“We’ve committed ourselves to two games in any 12 month period. The first three are well underway and the fourth and fifth are fairly well advanced from a narrative perspective. We even have our ideas in place for the sixth, seventh and eighth!
Man of Medan is a game I will definitely be checking out as I am a huge fan of this genre and studio. The game is set to be released on 30th August, 2019 for the PS4, Xbox One and PC! Keep checking Nothing But Geek for any more info about the Dark Pictures Anthology in the future!
