The Call of Duty World League is excited to share that AdWeek and FORTUNE have recognized Johanna Faries for her work as a trailblazer and influential force within the sports community. As one of the 30 Most Powerful Women in Sports, Johanna joins the ranks of female innovators, such as Alex Morgan and Alexys Feaster, who are changing the game and world of sports for fans and brands alike. FORTUNE’s 40 Under 40 is currently available in print and recognizes Johanna as one of the most influential young people in business.
In addition, Call of Duty World League has officially confirmed Johanna will serve as the league Commissioner of Call of Duty Esports.
Faries had previously been named Head of Call of Duty Esports. In a Q&A on the Activision Games Blog, Faries details how the title change connects to the new league’s current progress:
“During my initial phase on the job, my team’s focus was really on setting a new product vision for Call of Duty as a city-based franchised league and to design an experience that we believe can grow to become one of the biggest sports leagues on the planet. Now that we have begun to sell franchises to ownership groups all over the world, it’s less about going from a white sheet of paper to what we have shaped now, and more about operating and managing this competitive ecosystem in a best-in-class way.”
