First and foremost, thank you to Warner Bros. Home Entertainment for providing a copy of Gremlins on 4K Ultra HD for this review, celebrating it’s 35th anniversary, in stores TODAY!

I have to say, from the beginning of the movie, this took me back 35 years INSTANTANEOUSLY! I had the opportunity to catch the Gremlins the first day it hit theaters! I still remember walking in to the theater with my grandmother and cousin.

The visuals/picture quality: TOP NOTCH!  The HDR makes the transfer to 4K UHD pretty seamless. The dark points in the movie are crystal clear. There are a couple of spots in the movie where the movie looks animated, which, for all intents and purposes, is pretty solid due to it being 35 years old. You can see ALL of the detail that might not have shown through before. From the fine hairs on Gizmo’s head, to some of the textures on the bodies of the Gremlins once they turn to their eating food after midnight, bright light or water.

The audio for the theatrical released was set in Dolby Stereo. For the 4K Ultra HD release, the soundtrack was remastered for 5.1 DTS.

Another great thing, among the plentiful BONUS FEATURES included in the 4K Ultra HD, is the commentary with director Joe Dante, producer Michael Finnell and special effects artist Chris Walas. The group go into detail on the making of the film and changes that were made during filming, including commentary with the cast.

All in all, the 4K Ultra HD version, celebrating the 35th Anniversary of the initial release is worth the pick up! It will take you back in time and you can show your kids what you grew up on!

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment announced today that 1984’s Gremlins will be released on Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack and Digital on October 1. Directed by Joe Dante (Innerspace, The ‘Burbs)) and written by Chris Columbus (The Goonies, Young Sherlock Holmes), the film stars Zach Galligan as Billy Peltzer, Phoebe Cates as Kate Beringer, and Hoyt Axton and Randall Peltzer, along with the voices of Frank Welker as Stripe and Howie Mandel as Gizmo.
