Felix & Paul Studios, the EMMY® Award-winning creator of immersive entertainment experiences, and Universal Pictures today launched a brand-new chapter of Jurassic World: Blue, a two-part virtual reality experience produced to coincide with the recent release of the Oculus Go VR headset—as well as the upcoming theatrical release of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
The two-part cinematic virtual reality experience was created by Felix & Paul Studios, Universal Pictures and Facebook’s Oculus—with visual effects and animation by Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) and sound by Headspace Studio. Directed by Félix Lajeunesse and Paul Raphaël, each chapter of Jurassic World: Blue delivers a single, continuous take, combining live-action and CG in 3D 360°virtual reality—resulting in some of the longest and most stunning visual-effects shots ever created.
Chapter 2 of Jurassic World: Blue follows Owen’s Beta Velociraptor as she scours for food and searches for signs of life while a volcanic eruption threatens all life on Isla Nublar. Blue’s fight for survival reaches a deadly climax as two fierce predators—a Baryonyx protecting her eggs, and Jurassic World’s infamous T. rex —stand in her way.
For the first time ever in a live action VR piece, audiences will be immersed in the ideal representation of a world in motion. To create the experience of landing directly in the middle of a scene, the team at Felix & Paul Studios placed the studio’s proprietary VR camera on a cable-cam, remotely controlling its every movement, as well as seamlessly integrating stunning visual effects & animation by Industrial Light & Magic. Exclusive behind-the-scenes footage of the filmmakers and VFX artists can be seen below:

Paul Raphaël, co-founder and creative director at Felix & Paul Studios had the following to say:
“Integrating live action filmmaking with visual effects and animation to deliver a seamless, immersive experience for the audience was no easy feat. Each unique chapter of Jurassic World: Blue highlights how 3D, 360-degree experiences can create a visceral, emotional cinematic experience for users. The new Oculus Go headset is the ideal vehicle to bring this fascinating new form of entertainment to a mass audience.”
Chapter 2 of Jurassic World: Blue is now available for Oculus Go, Oculus Rift and the Gear VR. Each of the two virtual-reality experiences was captured and produced using Felix & Paul Studios’ full-spectrum VR platform, including the studio’s proprietary, state-of the art cameras and pre- and post-production software suite.
Jurassic World: Blue is the much-anticipated follow-up to 2015’s highly acclaimed VR experience Jurassic World: Apatosaurus, co-produced by Felix & Paul Studios, Universal and Oculus.
