Yesterday, we thanks to Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, Nothing But Geek had the opportunity to get a few questions with Death Race 4: Beyond Anarchy director Don Michael Paul (click HERE to check it out!). Today, we get the opportunity to talk to star Zach McGowan!
NBGeek: What about Death Race 4: Beyond Anarchy caught your attention and made you want to be a part of it?
Zach McGowan: Well, there are quite a few things, one, when I signed on, Danny Glover, Danny Trejo and a few others had already signed on. In my mind, it was an awesome opportunity to work with these kind of legends. Two, being younger when the franchise came out, and that means I’m gonna have the franchise for a long time. Three, it was my first lead role in an action movie. Those are all kind of big reasons that along with having a lot of fun playing the lead role.
NBGeek: Does your character get to do some of the driving and if so, did you do some of the driving yourself?
ZM: I did as much of the driving as I was allowed. I did as much of the stunt work as I could. A lot of the stunt work, you can’t see certain elements of the car and there are some unbelievable stunts in the movie.
NBGeek: You’ve been a part of a few different franchises, including the Terminator franchise, TV series like Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. and now Death Race. Is there something that you want to do or a franchise you’d like to be a part of that you haven’t yet?
ZM: Yes! There’s so many, it’s hard to really begin to list them. Possibly getting involved in the Marvel world (Marvel Cinematic Universe), obviously there’s so many characters in that universe, the list is eternally long.
NBGeek: How was it working with Danny Glover? Pick up anything from him while you were filming?
ZM: Working with Danny was GREAT! He’s someone I’ve been a fan of his work as long as I can remember. He’s an amazing and unbelievable in dramas, comedies and action movies. He’s just an amazing actor and just an amazing guy. I picked up quite a few things from him, as someone who has been doing this for a while, he shows you how to treat and handle people. The best thing I picked up, he tells great stories about projects he’s been involved with, including The Color Purple, all his movies. I asked him so many questions and talked to him as much as I could. Kind of funny, I never got him to say it on camera, but I did get him to say, “I’m too old for this sh*t!” It happened while we were shooting during a break. I was trying to get it on camera and I would try to ask him stuff while we were filming, literally in a scene, and I would ask him, “hey Danny, I’m feeling kind of young, how are you feeling?” But he would never say it on camera.
NBGeek: Thank you so much for taking the time to speak with us. We’ve got time for one last question. Now that Death Race 4: Beyond Anarchy is releasing, what’s next for you?
ZM: I’ve got Scorpion King: Book Of Souls coming out in October. A few weeks after that, The Walking Dead, then a couple of indie pics coming out, and always figuring out what’s next, we will see!

Synopsis:
